Continuing to pursue the fusion style of carving and guratori / Yunosuke Sugaya

"Yunosuke Sugaya" who joined the SP team for 4 years
As a pioneer of the fusion style of carving and guratori
We spoke to him, who is still in pursuit.

QXNUMX: What is the fusion of carving and guratori?

Sugaya: Instead of simply doing carving and grading with the same board
Slide in one stream from top to bottom of the slope.
The meaning is included in the word [fusion].It is necessary to select a carving that is compatible with carving, select a carving line that can smoothly connect the carving, and the technology to do so.
It's important to ski without slowing down, but it's not enough to just slide in a straight line.

QXNUMX: Please tell us how you started

Sugaya: I belonged to a technical school in junior high school. While practicing carving there, I was personally interested in Guratori, so when I was working on it, the styles were mixed.

QXNUMX: What should I practice first? If you have any techniques, tips or points, please let me know.

Sugaya: It goes without saying that you should practice carving and guratori, but at first I recommend repeating simple tricks so that you can stably insert them while carving.
The trick is to start the trick against the direction of the board you are sliding and end the trick towards the direction the board is sliding. It is necessary to stop the rotation firmly at the edge.

QXNUMX: Please let me know if this item is suitable for the fusion style of Guratori and carving.

Sugaya: For the undercarriage items, we use head EIGHTBOA, SP SLAB.ONE, SP CORE, and RECT DISC.
The head EIGHTBOA is a fairly hard boot, but I like it because it gives power to the board without shaking even at high speeds.
In addition, the SP binding has a high degree of freedom in the direction of the nose and tail, and it responds well in the direction of the toe and heel, so I think it is suitable for both carving and swaying.
The RECT DISC is a snowboard plate that I develop and sell. By raising the position of the binding, it is possible to perform strong edging in both grading and carving. In addition, it is designed to control the flex of the board, so if you choose the one that suits you, you can improve the performance of the board without any disadvantages.

QXNUMX: Mr. Sugaya is your brother and is active as a rider.
Do you also skate with your brother?

Sugaya: Most of my riding photography is done by my younger brother. The two of us are working together under the backup of Kandatsu Snow Resort.

QXNUMX: Your brothers are on good terms, aren't they?At what age did you two start skating together?

Sugaya: I think we've been skating together since we were 5 or 6 years old.

QXNUMX: Finally, please give a word to those who want to master the fusion style of Guratori and carving.

Sugaya: It's a difficult genre, but I think it's a fun and cool style to watch and skate.
I look forward to the emergence of young talent.
