What should I prepare for the winter off? / Yuji Usui

Yuji Usui has been active as a JSBA demonstrator for eight consecutive terms. He is steadily preparing for the winter while spending a fulfilling off-season.What are you thinking about when training in the off-season?I heard the story.

—What kind of season was the 19-20 season?

Usui: It's been a light snow season, but I skate every day carefully and it's a dense season.During the season, I tried new things such as changing the settings and challenging the alpine.

— How do you spend your off-season?

Usui: I work in the mountains on weekdays and live in the mountains of Aizu while working as a pension on holidays.I started the field. The scale has grown steadily, and now we are growing about 20 kinds of vegetables. The rest is making craft beer.I am training at the brewery in Aizu. Both are delicious.

— It's a good way to spend the off-season!Is there any training you do every day as a daily routine in such a life?

Usui: I make an image while looking at the slopes of the ski resort in summer and train using skates.

— What are you aware of during training?

Usui: Instead of relying on your favorite rhythm, you can set up a cone so that you can deal with your weak rhythm. It's consciousness ... I'm training so that I can move unconsciously. That is the point.

-Are there any things you think "it's important to think about this and prepare in this way" for the winter season, or do you do it yourself?

Usui: Since there is a ski resort next door, I can inflate my skiing image while watching the summer slopes.I think there are many ways to prepare, but what I am trying to do is create a more accurate image.I imagine the actual movement according to the slope, and calculate back from there to make up for the movement that I lack. It's a very important task to connect off-training to results.

— “I want to get better, but I can't get better,” “I can't slide as I want,” “I want to be able to slide better next season,” can you give any advice to those who have such worries and feelings? Please tell us if you have any ideas or training methods for slipping that you can give common advice regardless of the level of slipping.

Usui: I think it's a good idea to figure out what you are good at and what you are not good at.For example, you can slide well up to a slope of 15 degrees, but what about 20 degrees? What about fresh snow at 25 degrees? What if you add conditions such as slopes and shade to it?Then you will be looking for a suitable board control answer. In many cases, not all of them are bad when they fail, and one of the conditions cannot be met.I think it is good to train with them in mind.

-So that's it!The story changes, but I think that the influence of Corona has changed the way we spend our time and the way we think after the end of the season. Please let me know if you feel that something has changed.

Usui: I used to be a strangely ideal person (laughs).Due to the influence of Corona, the idea has changed to "let's try it little by little".There was a place where I looked too far ahead, but I don't know what will happen in the future.Recently, words such as "arts help the body" and "work in the hands" pop up. Perhaps it is the psychology of wanting "ability".

—What kind of movement do you want to do in the 20-21 season?

Usui: I would like to start the activity from the beginning of December.I hope to continue the Hokkaido tour that I started last year.I want to spend my time rethinking my position as a "player".I will do my best to satisfy more customers in school work.

— What binding are you using now?

Usui: SPSLAB.ONEis.Anyway, I like the quick reaction. I have never tightened it more than 7%.Also, I like how the heel edge hangs.Since the snow can be pushed in below the ankle, you can get a foothold from the beginning of the edge.Simply put, it's easy to balance on the heel side.

— What kind of person would you like to recommend?

Usui: Recommended for those who are looking for a model that responds quickly and those who do not want to put stress on their feet. The boots are held down not only from above but also from the front and back (toes, heel direction), so tightening is dispersed. It is also recommended for those who want to speed up and slip, and those who want to try larger park items.
