Interview with Sachi Tanaka

Interview with Sachi Tanaka

Sachi Tanaka, who is always active and continues to be active in various fields such as riders, design, events, and tours. We interviewed her, who is planning to do new things this season as well.

XNUMX) When did you start snowboarding?

It was around the age of XNUMX.But from the age of XNUMX to XNUMX, I actually worked at a bank (laughs)
The content of my work was touching money, or checking incomplete documents or collating. Then, while working at a bank, I joined a business group in the rowing club and practiced.
However, the snowboarding that I started at that time made me want to do it more asexually. And until now, I was so frustrated when I lost at a boat tournament, but at one point I realized that I wasn't so frustrated even if I lost.

At that time, when the first movie of LIL was released, when I saw the movie, I thought, "Maybe it's within reach! I can do my best!"However, I was held back while being asked by various friends, "Can I live on a snowboard?"
However, at a certain timing, I had the opportunity to meet Michiyo Hashimoto and Aki Hiraoka at a drinking party related to Marasaki Sports, and I was able to receive various advice from Michiyo Hashimoto. One word I was really interested in at that time was, "It's important to skate a lot, but it's better to go abroad or Canada."
Believing that word, I used my paid vacation for about 10 days to travel abroad for the first time and to Whisler for the first time.

In Wisler, slipping itself was so much fun that I kept slipping all day long, and I slipped while eating calorie mate without eating rice. Then, when I returned to Japan, I decided to go to Canada again, wrote a resignation, and quit my job at the end of March.

But then when I attended LIL's first event, I dislocated my arm and couldn't go to Canada right away, so it was the first season I went to New Zealand in the summer. At that time, I didn't have a professional qualification for slopestyle, but I just loved jib and jump and practiced all the time.

XNUMX) Is there any reason why the field of your current activity changed from when you were skating on that jib or jump main?

The biggest thing was that I was seriously injured at NIPPON OPEN in 2008.From there, I couldn't jump, so I rehabilitated for half a year, and I was afraid of slipping in Japan, so I went to Canada.I like snowboarding, so I wanted to stand on the snow wherever I like and finish it.

At the same time, I decided to go to study English at CSBA, but when I stood on the snow and snowboarded, I was messed up and fell down, but for some reason it was so much fun, "Huh? Maybe? I could still do it !! "
Since then, I've been snowboarding for almost a year, and in the second year I've finally been able to jump a little.

So I thought.I can't be Sachi Tanaka at that time anymore, so I have to become Sachi Tanaka different from before. What can I do there? When I thought about it, I remembered myself writing designs, studying CAD, and studying various things while I was in the hospital, and started doing various things other than skiing on a snowboard.
After that, when I was in charge of boots design and wear design, I suddenly felt that I didn't like summer sponsors or anything like that. The products I designed were lined up in stores, and snowboarders bought them there, and when I saw the products in the mountains, it became even more fun than ever.

Then, in the second and third years, I snowboarded while emphasizing such things. In fact, after the serious injury, all the magazines stopped talking to me, but Jib, who I liked, started doing streets thinking that he would practice hard again and get better and look back.
At the same time, GiRL was born as a result of the desire to make a DVD for girls. There are various secret stories about its birth, but I couldn't do it without the help of Tomohiro Fujii, who is currently producing Maddoc.

After that, I became more and more attracted to free riding on the mountains, and at that time there was a cameraman named Taro Otake, who took me to various places in Canada. The encounter with him was so big that I had a routine to shoot while running Happy Camp together.Backcountry was the place where I arrived while getting the necessary avalanche qualifications at the site.Personally, the image of Japanese backcountry doesn't come to my mind, but the image of Canadian backcountry matched me very well.

Therefore, I feel that I will pursue backcountry from now on.

XNUMX) What do you think is the characteristic of Sachi Tanaka as a snowboarder?

After all, I love snowboarding.
I'm not skiing all year long, but I've been involved in snowboarding all year long, always thinking about new things in my head and thinking 365 days a year. That's why new boot designs come out and new ideas are born.
In that sense, I don't just like snowboarding, I love everything related to snowboarding, and I'm always doing my best for that.

XNUMX) The story changes, but it seems that you are making a new move for the family.

Actually, I've wanted to do it for two years, but for the past few years, families of the same generation have often been asked to take pictures with their children in the mountains.I feel that our generation has become a father and mother, and the children have become snowboarders. In the past, few children snowboarded, but now we see a lot of them.

Even if some parents want their kids to get better at snowboarding, some parents won't be in school at the beginning, so it's not good to have something in How To to get their kids to snowboard for the first time. mosquito?I kept thinking.

In December 2013, I was injured in a dislocation in Colorado, and at that time I felt "Isn't it the right time?" And started moving. This DVD released this time is a program that emphasizes kids playing on the board rather than sliding on the slope. And I would like to start in earnest from the winter of 12.
As for the contents, we will hold an event that children can play at the same time as the event and the snowboard test drive event, or create a children's version of the snowboard, and instead of suddenly snowboarding, ride on the board You can see it, move it sideways and have fun, and teach the children that kind of fun. From there, I hope my dad and mom, who saw the smiles of their children, would come to the mountains more.
