今回、リロイ・グラニスのサイン入り写真を出品できて嬉しいです。僕はベニス・ビーチのそばのマー・ビスタで、6部屋ばかりの古いアパートに住んでいました。下に住んでいた男性はサーファーで、だけど一緒にサーフしたことはなかったし、どんな人物かもよく知らず、ただ挨拶するだけの間柄だったんです。そんなある日、彼から薬物中毒者のクリニックで働くためにニュージーランドに引っ越すと告げられ、サーフボードとウェット用バッグ、そしてこの写真をもらいました。光と波、そしてサーファーのポジションが、まるで60年代初めのカリフォルニアのサーフィンを象徴するようなこの写真を、僕はとても気にいっています。でも、これは僕に贈られたものだから、こうして今度は、他の誰かにまた譲る機会なんだと思っています。

Message from MIKE BLACK
I am happy to contribute my signed LeRoy Grannis surf photo. I was living near Venice Beach ( Mar Vista ). I lived in an old apartment place that had 6 units. The guy below my unit surfed. I never surfed with him, nor did I know him that well. We'd just say "high " every now and then. One day he tells me he is moving to New Zealand to work at some addiction clinic. Before he moved he wanted to give me his surfboard, a wetsuit bag and this picture. I received this picture as a gift from him. I love this signed picture. The light, the wave, the position of the surfer it just screams "surfing in California in the early sixties". I am happy to give this gift for the auction. I believe it was given to me so I would have the opportunity to give it to you.
