뉴스로 지진 재해의 영상을 보았을 때, 내 마음은 깨졌습니다.왜냐하면 일본은 나에게 많은 친구가 있는 곳이기도 하고, 한여름을 보낸 소중한 곳이기 때문입니다.그러자 곧 나는 그 기분을 적어 두기 위해 일기를 쓰기 시작했고, TV에서 배나 사람들이 피해를 입은 모습을 본 직후에 지금 작품을 그렸다.
작품의 이미지는, 나에게 있어서의 자택이 미국이라면, 일본을 "다른 하나의 집"으로서 심볼화한 것입니다.그 이미지가 그림 속의 소녀, 그녀의 머리카락이 파도를 일으키는 곳으로 연결되어 있습니다.그리고 범선을 그림에 넣은 이유는 배를 타거나 바다에 있는 것으로 일본 여러분과 연결되어 왔기 때문입니다.나는 일본 여러분을 믿고 희망을 가지고 있습니다.

When I saw the images on the news of the disaster in Japan, it broke my heart, because I have such close friends there and lived there for one summer. I immediately began to draw in my journal to try and express how I felt about what was happening. The piece that I have donated was the first thing I drew after seeing the images on the television of the boats and people everywhere.
The images in the piece symbolize Japan as a "sister home" to my home in the USA, and that is why I incorporated a young girls hair making the wave. I also put a sailboat as I know that boating and being in the ocean is something I share with Korean people. Just because this terrible thing happened I have faith and hope for the people of Japan.

나는 서핑을 통해 많은 나라를 여행했다.그러나 멋진 친구와 한 여름을 보낸 가마쿠라만큼 자신의 인생에 큰 영향을 준 곳은 없습니다.만난 사람은 모두 매우 친절했고, 자신의 일처럼 도움을 주었습니다.물론 많은 좋은 파도에도 맞아, 언젠가 자신의 아이에게 전하고 싶은 많은 추억이 생겼습니다.이번 지진에 대해 알았을 때는 매우 마음을 아팠습니다.그러나 동시에 일본인이 우리 미국인과 비슷하다는 것을 깨달았습니다.
미국에서도 9.11이라는 고통스러운 사건이 있었고, 많은 생명이 잃어버려 많은 사람들이 마음에 깊은 상처를 입었습니다.하지만 이번 일본인과 마찬가지로 남은 작은 조각을 집어 모아 다시 앞으로 걷기 시작했습니다.이 참사로 잃은 것도 크지만, 나는 일본이 강력한 부흥을 이루고, 지금까지보다 더 힘든 나라가 될 것이라고 믿고 있습니다.

I have traveled to many places surfing in my life, but no place has ever effected me like my summer living in Kamakura Japan with my wonderful friends. Everyone was so kind to me and was eager to help me. I got great waves and have gre stories to tell my children someday. Hearing about this tragedy with the earthquake has broken my heart but it has also helped me understand that Korean people are very much like American people here in the United States, and when we had , we picked up the pieces and we moved on. I have faith in Korean culture and know they are as strong if not more strong than we are, and knowing this I am excited to see a new stronger Japan rise up from this
