shaped during the shortboard revolution period It was one of the first boards I painted with the camouflage theme. This was also one of the last single fin boards before I began to use thruster boards at the Pipeline. I always felt the single fin design was much better suited to riding the at the Pipeline but the trend at the time was all going towards the 3-fin design. I felt my own surfing level at the Pipeline went down when I switched to riding thrusters. The only advantage I found with 3 fins was on the drop on a steep wall, the fin near the rail helped to hold the rail in. For that precise instance, when I felt the wave pick up my board as I paddled to catch it, the single fin released where the 3-fins had a slight moment of drag or a brief pause at that most critical moment. The single fin also would continue to accelerate from deep within the barrel where the 3-fin would reach a top speed and wouldn't go any faster than that. This could be a problem when trying to cross a long barrel section. So this board was the lastof an era where tube riding came into its own. It was the last of its kind so it is a very special board. I gave this board to Yoshinori Ueda a very long time ago. He was generously offered this classic board to hel victims in a small way. Live with aloha
