MADBUNNY = Interview with Akiyoshi Takada

MADBUNNY = Interview with Akiyoshi Takada

He has been attacking Utah and Jackson Hole for more than 70 years, and recently succeeded in shooting in Iran, and the national magazine snowstyle had an unusual feature of more than XNUMX pages, so not only SBN readers but also snowboarders do not know. There will be no oneMADBUNNY.

With 20 years of skateboarding and XNUMX years of snowboarding, he has released more than XNUMX signature boards, and ONE BALL JAY has released an international signature series.

As an artist, he spends more than half a year abroad (London and Berlin), and few people are in Japan, and his private life is full of mysteries.

An interview that I had been offering for several months.I caught professional snowboarder MADBUNNY = Akiyoshi Takada in his studio.

Madbunny. Thanks for giving us a chance to have this interview.

Mr. Takada is busy traveling around the world, but please tell us about the movements over the past few years.

In the past XNUMX years, I will shoot snowboards in the United States from the end of the year in the winter season, and after returning to Japan, I will shoot every day while testing wear and boards based on Shiga Kogen.

In the spring, he returned to Berlin and London for artist activities and art shows. The flow of returning to Japan with the UK crew for Fuji Rock in mid-July.

While the UK crew was staying in Japan, I took them to sightseeing spots in Japan while having meetings, and in September I returned to London and Berlin for art activities. It will snow again while returning to Japan around November and working on design. It is a life.

Jackson Hole.USA.2005.

When did you start going to Berlin and London?
If you think about it, it's been about 15 years ago.At that time, I started a company, so I couldn't stay for that long, but I kept going back and forth.

Recently, the internet and mobile phones have been enhanced since long ago, and I can still work overseas, and now I have staff who can be entrusted with peace of mind, so I will stay in London, Berlin, Japan for XNUMX to XNUMX months each. I'm repeating.

What made you start going?

I've loved music since I was a kid, I've been involved in music as a bassist since I was in middle XNUMX, and when I realized that my favorite music was mostly UK. I may have been impulsively attracted to London.

At that time, people called professional riders who had never learned design were very doubtful about creating a brand with the power of the manufacturer, so they started a brand called UG. To hide their name and compete in design and movement. rice field.

However, from the moment I launched the brand XNUMX years ago, I studied design at school, became a member of society and worked in the field of gravure, but if I do not evolve further, I will end up with the same XNUMX as the (above) brand. It will be a brand that will end in XNUMX years.I strongly thought.

That's why I wanted to dig deeper into art, design, and photography to become a designer that works in the UK and Europe.I have my fans buy the products I designed, so I have to do my best. What?

That feeling hasn't changed even after XNUMX years.

Islamic Republic of Iran. 2012.

At that time, I think it was very difficult for Japanese people to enter the art and design industry in the UK.

To be honest, it was very difficult.Originally, I didn't have any friends in London, and all the trials encountered the unknown, so I continued to go around the gallery with my works for several years until I could hold my first solo exhibition in London.I think it was a lonely training period, including the difficulty that cannot be expressed in words.

Now that I belong to three galleries in London, it's difficult to adjust the schedule so that I never decline offers from each gallery.I'm the only Japanese artist in all the galleries I belong to in London, so I tried my best to respond to sudden schedule offers.

Whether it's Europe, America, or Asia, I flew to the site with my work the next day if called. All the expenses involved are self-sufficient, but all the artists from all over the world clean up the ruins and make a gallery from the place where the walls are painted white ...

As a result of having continued my life and show for about 10 years, I think that I was able to naturally become a family, or to be recognized as "he can move, Aki can do".

While receiving such a high reputation in London and Berlin in the world of art and design, you are also recognized worldwide as a photographer. Is there any expression or consistency in your work?

The expression BYSDNT CRY. I'm doing now is a woman's daily life and nudity, but I want to keep that moment. That feeling is no different from shooting snowboarding or skateboarding.

In the passage of time, the consciousness that I want to capture the most important moments and emotions of the subject with my sensibility is the basis.

What kind of subject do you want to shoot?

Speaking of snowboard riders, does that person have a style? That part is a very big place. If I think I'm cool, I want to shoot whether it's a professional rider or an amateur rider, and I don't shoot just because the girl looks good, and that person asks, "Do you have something?" Things are a major premise.

For BYSDNT CRY., Two-sidedness is important.

I really like the mental state of taking pictures and drawing pictures, so I want to take pictures of people who can feel a sense of being far from everyday life while living a general social life. That's right.

Is there anything that is influenced by the expression and expression method in the sense of taking a picture?

It's easy for me because there are moments when I have to take pictures of snowboarding and skateboarding. As a result of shooting a girl, I also publish a collection of works as art, but while shooting, I sometimes get urged to "what is art?"I think I'm always looking for something because I want to constantly evolve the way I express myself.

Shiga-kogen.JAPAN.2011.

Which is more time you think you are pushing forward compared to before? How do you manage your schedule?

I'm honored to be busy with many art show offers these days, so I feel like I'm pushing forward.Secret notes are filled with ideas, but sometimes I'm worried because I don't have time to make them, but the speed at which I can judge ideas and inspirations and shape them is much faster than before.

I'm getting busy, but = I often think while traveling because the distance traveled (travel time) is increasing.Schedules are always managed on iPhone and Mac.

What does Snowboarding and Skateboarding mean to Mr. Takada?

Play that lasts a lifetime.

People often say, "You can do a lot of things," but in the end, it's skateboarding that started in elementary school, musical instruments and snowboarding that started in junior high school, and art and design related to it. It hasn't changed since then.I just keep going because I still have a desire to pursue or dig deeper.

When I'm doing music, I think about art, and when I'm thinking about art, snowboarding ideas come down.

In my case, everything is connected, so skateboarding, snowboarding, computers, brushes, musical instruments, etc. are now my jobs, but I ended up playing with different tools. What is it?

Utah USA 2006.

Mr. Takada has been featured in snowboard magazines that have been interrupted for XNUMX years, but I feel like he doesn't exist in the snowboard industry.

is not it.

Thanks to the best sponsors, I have been able to continue snowboarding so much, and of course I am proud of being a professional snowboarder.

But snowboarding is just a small part of what I want to express, so it has nothing to do with the style of the industry or me, and I don't want to be dyed in that industry.

The sponsors also have a deeper trust in human relationships because they understand my way of doing things and the significance of their existence.

So when I want to slip, I go to the place I want to slip and leave the picture I want to leave.

I just like it, so keeping riding pure is what I mean by snowboarding.

Do you have a certain goal for your lifestyle and work?

It may have been 10 or XNUMX years ago, but recently I haven't imagined a goal.

For example, when I was a kid, I dreamed of being entrusted with art as a UK crew at Fuji Rock, being entrusted with the logo of a company with thousands of employees, and above all, flying around the world with art and design. I didn't expect it.

I don't have the idea of what will happen or what will happen because I've done this.

I just do my best every day.In the process, small chances and missions appear one by one and strive to overcome them.

For me, it's a pleasure and the process of striving to keep it going is painful and fun. It's okay.

Why de M.

Finally

It would be great if you could touch the work not only in the slippery field but also at Fuji Rock and art shows, feel something, and circulate that feeling to snowboards and skateboards.

There will be a party in Tokyo from 21:16 on the XNUMXst of this week.I would be happy if I had time to share the stimulus with everyone.

I'm skiing in Shiga Kogen this season as well.

How was it?

Maybe I could get a glimpse of a part of his outlook on life that was different from what he met at events and galleries.
