BRAND CONCEPT
A surf brand founded in Carlsbad, Southern California in 1972. The surf brand launched by John Smith in the 1960s was evolved by local surfer Jim Jenks into an apparel brand that caters to the needs of surfers. They sold surf trunks and walk shorts made of corduroy, which was rare at the time. The corduroy shorts with a single embroidered accent became an explosive hit, and items such as surf polos and aloha shirts were later supported by stylish young people on the West Coast, and OP became popular as a surf brand. At the height of the surfing boom, surfing was mainly centered in California, Hawaii, Austria and the Pacific Rim, so the brand was named OceanPacific after the Pacific Ocean.
