Study abroad in Whistler alone at the age of 15.Ryoki Ogawa has built his own style by slipping through the vast mountains of Canada. At the same time as moving the place of activity to Japan from two seasons ago, he won the full part with MOVIE of crew STONP composed of domestic top riders. And last season, as Dirty Pimp, Ryoki overcame three fractures and left a full part with enthusiasm.Interview with Ryoki Ogawa, who is active on the street stage for the coming season.

When did Ryoki start snowboarding?
It was when I was in the third grade of elementary school. The whole family went to Karuizawa to ski, partly because my aunt was originally snowboarding. Then I got hooked from the first time (laughs). From there I started skiing every weekend.Until I became a junior high school student, I went skiing at various ski resorts.I happened to be in a small jib contest, and I met Masato (Masato Toda), who is still working with me, for the first time. After I started jib, I started going to SNOVA Mizonokuchi, and I used to go to Masato, so I used to go with him.Masato was my brother Masaki-kun (Seiki Toda), and I also learned a lot.At that time, I was in elementary school or junior high school, but from Masaki-kun, if the shape of the trick was a little dull, there was a manzai, so I was particular about slipping even though it was small.I was planted with a commitment to style over there, so I think that the commitment to style is still stronger than anyone else.

I think I've been snowboarding based on Whistler since I was 15 years old, but how did you spend your time over there?

After graduating from junior high school, I entered a vocational school called CSBA in Whistler, Canada, where I was studying English and snowboarding. It was attractive to be able to snowboard overseas, so I went to Whistler alone. In the first year of enrolling in CSBA, I can hear English but cannot speak it.But in the second year, during the fall vacation, there was a period when CSBA spoke only English for a month without speaking Japanese.Until then, I wasn't confident in English, but I became confident that I didn't speak Japanese for a month, and now I can speak English at once. From there, the local circle also expanded. On the Whistler slopes, every day I snake after a good guy.Sometimes the lifts are shared together, and then they talk to me from the other side and I naturally make more friends (laughs). After graduating from CSBA, I worked at a snowboard shop called THE CIRCLE in Whistler.I'm from Tokyo, and I longed for an environment where I walked from my house to the ski resort. In Whistler, summer was great, fishing with skateboards, going to the lake and mountain biking.I'm on the street now, but when I was in Whistler I hadn't done the street.Because there aren't many street spots around Whistler.Besides, the mountains are big, the park is interesting and I never got tired of it.

Since you came back to Japan, you've been active in STONP and Dirty Pimp, right?
What is Dirty Pimp? Masaki started shooting with a kick. In the season before I was active in STONP, I did the street for the first time by shooting Dirty Pimp.I shot it in Colorado and Salt Lake, and the spot I went to at that time was an unthinkable rail.I tried to do it with the idea that "100% will come out" when there was almost no snow, but I couldn't make one by doing 50.At that time, I was really disappointed. Now that I've gained experience, I would never do it at that spot with that amount of snow (laughs), but the video at that time is this.

SNOW BANK PAY IT FORWARD (SBPIF) was doing at Yoyogi Park in 2014.Originally, I heard the story of STONP from all around me.However, I wanted Kazu-kun (Kazuhiro Kokubo) to speak to me directly. I met Kazu for the first time at SBPIF.Then, the day after winning the rail jam, Kazu-kun contacted me directly and asked, "Ryoki, why don't you join us at STONP?"I was so happy that I was really enthusiastic about taking a full part.Actually, I was planning to return to Canada that year, but I decided to work here and worked on the whole street shooting for one season. At that time, the motivation to take a full part was not a hump.I suffered from dislocation habits and my ribs broke, but I continued to drink loxonin and leave the spots of birds.

You shot with the adidas Snowboarding overseas crew last season, didn't you?
I agree. RIDE rider Alex Sherman contacted me and we went to Hokkaido together with Masato. The overseas crew were Ruif Paradis, Derek Lever, Alex, and myself and Masato. However, I could hardly slip because I was hit by the street just before going to Hokkaido. When the shooting started, Masato decided a good trick because it was salty, and I was a little disappointed that I wanted to be fascinated, and I was happy that the Japanese were recognized by the overseas crew. However, this time it was not a slippery side but a support side, but it was quite a learning experience to see from the outside.First of all, for Luif, start setting with a shovel at any spot. They looked at the spot, and if they thought it was impossible, they went to the next spot without preparation, but they were different. As a result, there are some spots that I wouldn't do even if I made them, but it's a stance to try them for the time being. It was very quick to switch between what I couldn't do and what I couldn't do.In fact, it would be nice to see it in the video even in the place where "Is it such a picture?"How to approach, how to play the line, how to ride the board, everything is different and the eyes to see the spot have changed. At the high cascade summer camp I went to in the summer, I and Masato made a clip of adidas, which greatly increased my motivation.

Did you start using adidas Snowboarding gear last season?
Well, from last season. I'm wearing boots called SUPERSTAR ADV, but above all, it looks really cool. It's like sneakers and has a full street feel, and it's very comfortable to wear. You can see boots and gear in the street, whether it's a photo or a video. That's why I want to use cool things. These boots, which are fashionable like sneakers with classic laces, are the best.

Finally, what are your plans and enthusiasm for this season?
This season, I would like to shoot in Japan as a Dirty Pimp crew.I used to be quite overseas-oriented, but recently overseas crew members have come to attack Japanese streets, and I realized that there are still more spots in Japan that can be seen overseas. So, even though I was Japanese, I was disappointed that overseas riders were doing good tricks there.I think it's awkward to live in Japan and not do dangerous spots in Japan. After that, I was able to connect with overseas riders, and I would like to attend not only Dirty but also overseas riders and work with them. There were some parts that didn't go as I expected due to my injury last season, but I'm not worried that I've completely healed.I will do my best this season.
