Park concept for further evolution ~ Hoshino Resorts Alts Bandai / Nekoma Ski Resort

A warmer winter than expected last year had a major impact on the operations of ski resorts throughout Japan.Especially in the snowboard park, even the park builder who has the technical ability was forced to change the plan because of the amount of snow.Under such circumstances, Alts Bandai, which is at the forefront of creating snowboard parks, suddenly changed its schedule, moved the main stage to Nekoma Ski Resort, and made the first transition jump in Japan, leaving results even in the warm winter. And this season, when it seems that snowfall can be expected, a new concept is starting to move along with the revenge of the previous year. So, while looking back on the previous season, we asked Mr. Yuji Yamada, a pioneer of Japanese park builder who manages the parks of the two resorts, and Miyabi Onitsuka, who continues to evolve toward the 2022 Beijing Olympics, about this year's park concept. saw.

The importance of a practice environment for fighting at the world level
Miyabi Onitsuka

Alts Bandai, which I have been accustomed to since I was a child
I've been skating in Alz since I was 5 years old. When I participated in the Kirara camp when I was in the lower grades of elementary school and was practicing with a kicker of about 10m, Izumi Amaike, a professional rider who was a coach at that time, said, "The switch ability is not enough."I remember practicing it terribly because it was frustrating. At that time, I didn't really understand the existence of a professional rider, and it was just like being pointed out by an adult (laughs). However, looking back now, I think that thanks to that, the technology of the cab has improved. And with Kirara Camp as a trigger, I've been practicing with Alts and Nekoma all the time.Of course, the goodness of the park is a big factor, but since I was originally from Kumamoto, Kyushu, I had no place to free run nearby. That's why Alz and Nekoma slipped while feeling that it was really nice to be able to experience everything.I also love the mountaintops and hoarfrost areas, as well as the Alz night games. The course is not rough, the snow quality is a little hard and the board runs well, and the glittering atmosphere of the light is like a night game at an overseas resort. The rice is delicious and the rest house is comfortable, I like that.

Inevitably chose to practice in overseas parks to compete with overseas players
Looking back, I have more experience of skiing in overseas parks since I was aiming to become a player in earnest.Whenever I returned to Japan, I always thought that there was a big difference between overseas and Japanese parks. When fighting in overseas competitions, there is no environment in Japan where you can practice practically, and you can only practice the basics.Even if you want to try a new technique, you can't help without a place to try it.Like before the Pyeongchang Olympics, I asked Alz to create a park at the required timing, and I feel that I can finally practice for the game.I think that all the players who are trying hard to reach the world level in Japan are worried there.I mainly practice at the jump practice facility (quest) during the off-season in Japan.I went there almost every day this summer. It's been recently that I perfected my technique at a jumping practice facility and then on the snow. The muscle training of basic physical strength is about once a week, so I feel relieved by doing it.However, training is useful for being able to withstand the impact of landing, but when it comes to snow, it is absolutely necessary to go abroad.

The make-up rate increased by increasing the amount of practice last season.
I reviewed the basics of movement and greatly increased the amount of practice from about 4 days a week to about 6 days a week. Then the make-up rate went up a lot.I wanted to attack the cab more, but the front was rather good, which just happened to lead to good results from the previous season, and I wasn't in good shape.I would like to increase the number of revolutions. The people around me haven't stopped growing, and the level is rising steadily, so I think I should raise it even more.Actually, I think that this is the limit for the number of revolutions every time, but as the make-up rate rises, the future becomes visible every time. When I made 720, I thought that this was the limit, but when the make-up rate went up, I tried to make it a little stronger and it seemed that I could do 900 times, but little by little, I feel like I can see the future.

Practicing transition jumps at Nekoma led to the result of US OPEN slopestyle 3rd place
Before the US OPEN, it was announced that there would be a transition jump on the course, so I sent the information to Mr. Yuji Yamada to make it.I had made transition jumps before, but it wasn't enough experience. If Nekoma didn't make a table for practice, the US OPEN couldn't be in 3rd place. The result of that practice was very great.Because many slopestyle players have experience with halfpipes, but since I entered slopestyle from the jib in the first place, I never really flew halfpipes. He was so famous that he was not good at R (laughs). So the challenge was how to overcome it in a short period of time, and when practicing with Nekomadake's transition jump, I asked him to upload it with a snowmobile and repeated it many times. Adjust one day with a three-day schedule, and fly firmly for two days.I got a mobile up, so the amount of practice flew as much as a week per day. After all, in the transition jump, there is a problem with the line to make good use of R.It was difficult to create an image of how to fly by myself, so I asked Yuto Totsuka to fly with me and received advice. How do you wind the line against R unlike the kicker?Totsuka-kun flew with a margin immediately. It was flying about twice as high and the distance was long. The line was very helpful. At the US OPEN, I went around 3 flat, but when the next transition jump comes into the item, I would like to add vertical rotation.

A transition jump with R as the kicker. You can jump out from either the left or right
Practice at a high pace using mobile up. I repeated jumps equivalent to one week in one day's practice
Halfpipe specialist Yuto Totsuka's advice helped me a lot in the transition jump practice.

Towards the Beijing Olympics "Gold Medal"
Since it was a year before the Olympics, the minimum level is to leave a result that can get a job offer for the Olympics.I would like to raise my level even further with the goal of winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games next year. Compared to the same period four years ago, I have an image of back-calculating preparations for the actual production because I have experience once.At the time of Pyeongchang, the support from Hoshino Resorts was decided just before the actual season. However, this time, the amount of practice and the content accumulated in Japan at this stage are different, and the difference has already appeared as a result. From a mental point of view, I think there will be a lot of pressure over the next year, so I'd like to be careful.

This practice covered the lack of experience of R, who had never seriously flown a halfpipe, and led to the result of US OPEN.

Working on items such as "Transition Jump" and "SCLOVER BIG AIR" in the absence of snow
It was hard because of the lack of snow that I had never experienced before. Both Alz Bandai and Nekoma have completely changed their original plans.Even so, at the request of Mr. Masa, I was able to hold a transition jump that I made to Nekoma in a hurry, and then hold SCLOVER BIG AIR, and I think I was able to do everything I could in that snowy situation. After all, due to the influence of Corona, Nekoma Ski Resort had to close earlier than planned, but due to lack of snow, I was always thinking about how to leave the park for as long as possible. I did.Even Nekoma had a shortage of snow to make a transition jump, so it was necessary to make snow with artificial snowfall.

The reason why Alz Bandai and Nekoma Ski Resort have continued to stick to creating parks
I think that the number of ski resorts where you can focus on the park is limited. It doesn't mean that there should be a park for everything, but as long as it is built, ski resorts must be able to take advantage of it.I think that the quality of the park is becoming very important, which leads to the effect that people gather in a good park.It is a fact that few people actually have the technology to create a park, and even if you try to make a good one, it is not easy at present. As Alz has a background as a sacred place for snowboarding that has done ASIA OPEN and SLOPESYLE, I think that the reliability of the park is very important to convey the charm that other ski resorts do not have. When I started working, it was a big feeling that I made it because I wanted to slip there. That's why I was focusing on such items, but now I want to create items that customers and snowboarders want and enjoy, and I want people to come together to feel the charm.Of course, I also feel like working to create something that can meet the demands of top players like Onizuka.

Even Nekoma suffered from lack of snow, but snowboarders gathered from all over the world in search of a park photo: yoshitoyanagida.net

Step up from terrain park to kicker and jib park
Recently, the number of ski resorts that mainly use terrain parks is increasing, but I originally wanted to increase the number of people who ski in the park. Therefore, I would like you to try more parks and step up by enjoying the terrain. When you can make a turn, try the terrain park. The terrain park is also easy for anyone to play, depending on how you slide there. Therefore, if you want to fly while playing without overdoing it, we are creating a park with the idea of gradually stepping up from the beginner park.Of course, as a ski resort, we are making items that can meet various levels and needs at Alz Bandai and Nekoma Ski Resort with the aim of having as many snowboarders as possible enjoy themselves.

Kicker design for increased safety
The most important thing is the balance between the pop-out angle and the landing.I have enough experience in that regard, so I can respond to various requests.Especially big kickers, and things that you make for the first time like the transition jump of the previous season are especially difficult to land.In the end, coordination with the rider is also important for landing. It is also very important in terms of safety, and I want to make a long landing, but that is related to the angle of the slope that makes the park, and the amount of snow is also required.Nekoma is still easy to make because it has a lot of snow, but the big kicker at Alts Bandai has a hard time carrying snow from about 1km above it.It feels like deciding where to make it through trial and error and consulting with the staff. Also, the kicker of the park, which is enjoyed by ordinary snowboarders, shows the starting position properly because it is more dangerous to fly too much than not to reach the landing. The reason why the levels are subdivided is that if the size difference of the items when you take it to the next step is too large, you will be very scared. It also increases safety risks and stops stepping up.We want to provide a park where you can safely and smoothly step up little by little on the extension of your senses.I think it will be a fun park and a park that you will want to visit again and again.

Making a landing for a big kicker is difficult.Landing burn is also made by pulling up a snow-packed car using a winch
Careful maintenance is also required in terms of safety. You can jump out with confidence because it is a perfectly managed item

Leading to steps to the world
International convention level "Miyabi Park" is now available

World-class riders such as Hiroaki Kunitake visited Nekoma Ski Resort for the transition jump, which was completed in a hurry last year, after the practice of Onizuka. For the first time in Japan, items that are rarely seen overseas have become a valuable practice place for them. "Until now, I could only practice overseas. That's true for all Japanese snowboarders who are working hard toward the world. That's why Japanese snowboarders can practice at the same level without going abroad." Miyabi Park I wanted to make a transition jump. I want Hoshino Resorts to create what I have experienced overseas and what I wish the Japanese park would be like. Specifically, I want to fly the transition jump again. I'm thinking, but I think it would be great if I could think about it while fighting this year's game, make a request, and have it be a place for other Japanese players to step up (Masa Onizuka). " At the "Miyabi Park" that will appear, there is no doubt that a super session will be held by the best players in Japan.

Exciting sessions of riders at Miyabi Park will take place this season against the backdrop of Mt. Bandai.
What kind of item it will be has not been announced yet. This is a 3WAY with the same shape as the SLOPE STYLE kicker of the Pyeongchang Olympics. The feature is that the left and right kickers are angled

All levels are OK> Park that can be washed away

There are endless ways to play in the park where anyone can play freely without having to fly, turn, or decide on a technique. You can enjoy the fun without feeling the fear of entering the park.In addition to banks and half pipes, original items will be released as items using terrain.Experience the fun different from a flat slope just by sliding.

Level 1-2 (Beginner)> Step Up Park for Beginners

Step up with a mini kicker in 1m, 2m, 3m and meter increments. For the first jib, the park has items such as a box with a handrail that are welcomed by inexperienced people. You can experience the first step of the park by flying a little and riding a little.

Levels 3-5 (Intermediate Advanced)> Step Up Park for Middle & Expert

Intermediate to advanced version of Step Up Park. We have a lineup of intermediate kickers from 3m mini kickers to 8m that can be increased in size in meter increments.Boxes and rail items that allow you to try various exercises are lined up by level, and you can challenge higher levels little by little while practicing repeatedly. As for advanced items, kickers and jib items of the optimum size for domestic slopestyle competition level practice are gathered. This season, the range of levels has expanded, allowing people of different levels to practice together.
