The November issue of FREERUN features an article entitled "Alaska, the Holy Land to Visit," which takes a behind-the-scenes look at the Alaska trip of Takafumi Okawa, owner of DEATH LABEL.
Have you read it?
Valdez, Alaska, is a mecca for snowboarding, a place where many snowboarders aim to carve lines with their own strong desires in their hearts.
It's not a place that everyone can reach.
It is a place where you can drop onto the slopes only after you have acquired the necessary skills and mindset, and have met all the conditions, including the cost and time required for the trip, and the weather and other on-site conditions.
The article, written by photographer Junichiro Watanabe, who accompanied Okawa on the trip, tells the story of how Okawa visited Alaska with Death LEBEL riders Yasuyuki Nakata and Masaaki Jiang and how he achieved his goal on his third attempt in over 2 years.
"This vehicle saved my life. I don't know what would have happened without it. My range of activities has crossed borders, and I've made friends all over the world. Wherever I go, someone looks after me. That makes me so happy. This vehicle has enriched my life."
The article includes Mr. Okawa's words.
It is thanks to snowboarding that I am able to dream of the slopes of Alaska and live a rich life.
Skiing down just one mountain peak can mean a lot.
It's just snowboarding, but if you take it seriously, it can become an even more amazing experience.
Such is the backstory of this journey.
