This winter season has various problems that have never been seen before.Record shortage of snow due to warm winter, and new coronavirus featured in daily news.Due to these factors, the events originally scheduled from late February to March have been canceled one after another.
Among them, there are some events that could be held by changing the format in a hurry, such as small-scale holdings and non-audience holdings. One of them is TENJIN BANKED SLALOM 2, which was held from Saturday, February 29th to Sunday, March 3st, the 1th time this year.

It was considered by the people concerned whether it should be held until just before, but the award ceremony should be held near the goal outdoors instead of indoors, asking people who are not in good physical condition to participate, and approaching people such as receptionists. The management side requested thorough self-management such as wearing a mask when doing so, and it was decided to reduce the scale of the event.

This course started from a little lower than usual due to lack of snow

This year's course will be created at Horite, who gathered from local areas and all over Japan, snowboard legends Mike Cummins and Mike Basic, and "SHAPER SUMMIT JAPAN" held in Kagura a week ago. I decided the course line from a few days ago with Rob Kingwell who was doing it.

Due to the lack of snow at Tenjindaira Ski Resort in Gunma Prefecture, which was the venue, we were forced to struggle, and the start was near Oiwa, which is a little lower than the usual course. However, because there was no technical bank with a slope at the top, and because the bank was created while almost slipping together during the construction, the gliding distance was reduced, but the bank-to-bank connection was smooth. A course that can be played comfortably was completed.

Therefore, the course became more aggressive than usual, and waxing and gliding timing to keep the speed became very important. The condition of the snow on which the board runs well also has a great effect on the time, so in the final on Sunday, we saw some ideas such as changing the order of the first and second runs.Especially in the men's and women's open classes, there is a big change in the snow conditions between the first and second runs, and the DQs of the participating riders are also noticeable in the race development.

Originally, the award ceremony was planned to be held near the goal, but when the last runner in each class finished slipping, the time was announced on the spot and the award was given. With this, there was a live feeling and it was showing a big crowd.
In the men's and women's open classes, unprecedented faces smashed into the top ranks. The success of the next generation of snowboarders stands out, and new heroes are born in each class.

In the history of 10 years, the age of the participants has increased and the next generation of snowboarders has been newly added, and the culture of banked slalom has been inherited while being firmly matured. For the last 10 years, TENJIN BANKED SLALOM has been watching the flow of the scene. Not to mention the passionate desire of the management staff to liven up the Japanese snowboarding scene, but above all, I think that the essence of this scene is that anyone, regardless of age or sex, can participate and enjoy facing themselves and growing. ..
There must have been immense pressure to hold the event at this time, but overcoming it and holding it safely must have given great courage to the future snowboarding scene in Japan.
