Assault coverage of the rumored snowboard school "STEP 7"!

step_title

I'm curious about the snowboard school called "STEP 7".
According to what I heard, it seems that it is a private lesson with a small number of people by creating a student chart in a step system.
I can imagine it, but it won't be so much talked about.
Why are there constant repeaters? What kind of teaching do you do?What's the difference?
This will have to be charged by me!
If I, an intermediate / old man / weekend borderer, experience it for myself, I think many snowboarders in the world will sympathize with me.

step0By the way, STEP7 seems to hold a free trial lesson to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the class ...However!Let's dare to pay for the experience here!Tie-ups, free trials, and spoiling.I'll cut myself off and explore the true value! !!

So, I will report on the lesson I actually experienced and the state of "Lesson Free DAY" held the next day!

By the way, can you see the secret of STEP7?

Assault experience! "STEP 7" Basic edition

"I'm Chikako Fushimi, the principal of STEP7. Please call me."
Oh, isn't that Fushimi-san?
I saw it at NIPPON OPEN the other day.I've talked to them at events, but this is the first time I've talked to them properly.
Moreover, this time I am a student.Thank you again.

The new students are me and another female. It seems that repeaters will join later, so first of all, only new students will check the level.
After getting off the lift and putting on the board, move downhill to a wide barn.

"Mr., I see. The right shoulder is too open."
Oops, did you suddenly check in?

"Yes, let's make a long turn and a short turn."
Chikachi goes down first and raises his hand.
Try the long turn and short turn you are thinking of.

"Okay. Mr.'s right shoulder and right hip are too open to use his hind legs. I know the timing of edging, so if I fix that, it will be much better."
Oh, after all such a habit ...
"Next, let's stop from the fall line."
It would be easy to stop from a straight slip!I will try it with enthusiasm.
"Even though it's slippery, it's on the toe side. I can't step on it firmly."
Oh, again?Was it so bad?
"If you stop from this fall line, you can see the level in one shot. Mr. is in the second half of STEP 4, XX is STEP 3."
I understand.

After finishing the level check, I joined the repeater.
"Then I'll start the lesson. First, let's start with the basic posture. Let's do it with repeater △△."
Put on a board with a flat burn, take a basic posture, and then sit down and jump.
"Yes, Mr.'s knees on his hind legs go too far inside."
Then ollie.
"Mr. Ride more on your right foot. ○○ -chan is in front of the shin."
At this point I'm pretty sweaty.
But gradually I started to see weaknesses.

step1Then, take the lift to the slopes.
"Then, I'm going downhill on the toe side and heel side."
Eh?Is it downhill now?
"Please follow me so as not to erase my truck"

First, the toe side.
"Mr. knocks down the shin too much. There is no load on the edge because it relies on the knees. ○○ -chan should push the shin more and not stick out the buttocks."
Heel side.
"How do you compare your truck to my truck?"
It's wide.It's off.
"In other words, I can't step on my hind legs."
Oh, what should I do with the teacher ...
"Opening the front shoulder means that the force transmitted to the edge is released. You have to make a wall on the front waist. To do that, attach your elbows here and slide."
I see, i see.
"Do you feel the feeling of stepping on your forefoot at the start of the turn in that state?
Oh, I see how it feels like it won't come off!
"I'm wearing my head. It feels like I'm throwing a board out without changing the position of my head."
Uh, there are a lot of bad things.

step2The habit and weakness that have been spotted. It's a little dented, but I'll get specific advice to correct it.It's easy to understand, such as the image or the position of the hand. Moreover, individual advice is given to each participant.I can do it here, but I can't do it here, so I feel like doing this.

"It may be difficult for STEP3 people, but the turn requires the feeling of stepping forward and sending out with hind legs."
Oh, the story goes deep.
"Let's really remember that in an extreme example? We'll do layback and cutback."
Is layback a yinling pose behind that?
"First of all, crouch down to the tail side on the spot. You can touch the tail. If you drop your forefoot first and start to slide, kick your hindfoot ..."
So that's it!Easy to understand!It's interesting!
"Mr.! There is a knee in the back again!"
Oh, it's still useless.
Based on such practice, we moved to practice of accelerating carving turn by stepping on our hind legs.I understand, I understand, it feels like accelerating. But I'm already stepping on my hind legs.
Thanks to the thorough practice in the morning and afternoon after lunch, I learned the weaknesses and how to overcome them.
But my legs are ...In other words, you can see how I didn't usually use my hind legs.

Discussion after practice.Homework will be given according to each weakness. When I was a student, when I asked about my homework, it said "Uhhhhh!", But it's strange because I'm happy with the homework given here.Because it's homework to improve your snowboarding skills.
"Mr.'s homework should be layback / cutback and slip with your right knee in mind."
Thank you! !

Alright, by the time I took the next lesson ... I swore so firmly.

Well, when I finished all the steps, I thought about what makes it different from other schools.

First of all, the issues are theoretical and clear for each STEP.
The image is that you can step up by clearing the tasks as if you were collecting jigsaw puzzle pieces.
Is this feeling like clearing the dungeon of the game suitable for Japanese people?
Of course, you can't clear it once, so you'll want to try again!
Even if you clear BASIC, you'll be waiting for dungeons in different cities such as JIB and JUMP.Hmmm, I'm addicted to it!

Another thing I thought was that it was amazing that you could teach me for a whole day!
This is a great deal! It's more like a 1DAY camp than a school.
I'll ask Chikacchi-sensei for a little more detail.

★ Special interview I asked Chikacchi-sensei

I finally got dented today ...
"There are many people who are slippery but have the same habit as Mr.. There are times when the STEP3 person like XX who was taking lessons with me today can easily correct it. It's hard to cure the habit of trying to slip comfortably. But I can check what I told you today, so please remember and learn by yourself. "
After all it is difficult to correct habits.
"Actually, I can understand Mr.'s feelings well. Because my front shoulders and hips were open and I slipped. Then I had to rely only on my front legs and I hurt my left hip joint. I corrected it. As you can see by doing a pipe, snowboarding is not only the movement of the forefoot and hindfoot, but also the movement of the forefoot and hindfoot, so it is possible to efficiently transfer both forces to the board. If you use your body so that you can do it, you won't have any trouble.
So that's it!It's true that pipes are severe.
"STEP 7's BASIC is packed with the basics of jumping, jibing, pipes, and even backcountry, so what we value most is BASIC. Jumping and jibing. I really want people who are worried about BASIC to experience BASIC. "
I understand.I feel that everything I learned today is connected.
"I have more and more things to tell, and I still have a lot of drawers. But if I don't tell each STEP of that person, I'm just confused, so I dare to make a small amount. But I've told you the important things, so today's lesson It will change the way you slide a lot. "
I heard that there is a curriculum.
"Yes, this STEP 7 has a systematic curriculum. BASIC has a curriculum of about 100 pages, and JIB and JUMP each have a curriculum of about 50 pages, and all coaches wear this before coaching. "
That's why I can't tell you.
"The way of communicating and comparing is different depending on each coach, but the fundamental part is the same. For those who took STEP 7, we make a medical record individually. Doctor In the light of the curriculum, you can record what part is missing and how much in each STEP, and even if the coach changes in the next course, you can clarify the task. "
Can you show me that chart?
"No, it's only shared by coaches, but if you ask me,'How much are you missing now?', I'll tell you what's missing."
Is that the same when receiving JIB or JUMP?
"Of course, everything works together. The goal is all-round. Total snowboarding."
I've started to go backcountry, so I'd like to take Mt (mountain) as well ...
"Mt is from the person in STEP 5"
picture?Then there is still more.
"Well, even if you're a STEP4 person, you can take it several times and if you understand how to use your hind legs, you can take it, so don't be so discouraged. But to really enjoy the backcountry, you need a lot of skill. What is it? "
Yes.That's what I think.Thank you for your time today.I will definitely take it again.

STEP7 Coverage of "Lesson Free DAY"!

The day after I took STEP7, a free trial session was held as "STEP7 1st Anniversary" Lesson Free DAY "".

From the morning level check to the discussion after the lesson, it seems that you can experience the same content as the actual lesson for free.I hate that I don't cut corners just because it's a trial course!

BASIC is 1 class, JUMP is 1 class, JIB is 2 classes, and the capacity is 32 people.Students range from the second grade of elementary school to the late 2s!

The coach of the BASIC edition is already my heart's master, Chikachi.
The coach for JUMP is Takusari Hoshi, also known as Tag.
The JIB coaches are Tomomi Nitta, also known as Tomochi, and Yuu Takeo, also known as Yu.

Divided into each course and begins with self-introduction.
After explaining the lesson contents and checking the basic posture and movement, it's time to go to the slopes. Since STEP7 values BASIC, the JIB and JUMP courses also start with basic skiing.

Make it possible to do the basic posture you did earlier during the turn. It is no exaggeration to say that the approach and ollie required for JIB and JUMP are determined by whether or not the basic posture can be stabilized!
I am surprised that JUMP and JIB classes also have many free-run lessons. But at the same time, it seems that it will lead to the next thing, and everyone's eyes are serious.
I am also curious about lectures that I have never experienced, such as stopping the reverse edge from a side slip.

The JUMP course starts straight.
Those who can do it will be given challenges such as indie, melancholy and grab.

step5At JIB, it is divided into two classes depending on the level, and the lower class is a super wide box with 50/50 and tail press. The upper class is a narrow box and progresses to 50/50, tail, nose, backside and frontside board slides.

For each, detailed indications such as "the angle of the ollie is blurred" and "the line of sight is looking down" and an accurate correction method are conveyed.
It seems that you can shoot with a digital movie camera and point out any problems on the spot.It seems that they explain it in an easy-to-understand manner, but it is obvious when it is shown in the video. It seems to be far from the image I have in my head.

step6Both JIB and JUMP repeat hiking up energetically (?).Instead of silently, the voices such as "Yeah!" And "Like now" are raised. After all snowboarding must be like this.

When I went to see the BASIC course, it was pointed out that it was similar to what I was taught the day before. It's only one day, but I look at it with a smile as if I were a sempai.
Suddenly, "Mr. Show me an example!"
Rotate from the tail press.I got applause even though it wasn't very good. It's super bad!

When I go to scout JUMP, oh! !!Is it already shifty? !!
Dangerous, everyone is improving ...
that?Some people have cramped legs.
Be careful not to try too hard.

Then, please see the snapshot below for the pattern of each lesson.step7 step8

Everyone got sweaty and did their best.
The process of improving is fun.So everyone did their best.
I personally experienced it and thought so.

STEP7 may be a methodology. There may be better methods besides STEP7.But at this point, I don't know anything better than this as a comprehensive curriculum aimed at improving freestyle snowboarding rather than technical.

Those who are interested should try it once.
It seems that people who think that they are at an intermediate level often do not ride correctly.

It's not embarrassing to be taught.
