Volunteer activity record.A sense of unity created by connecting people who like snowboarding and those who like Nagano

Typhoon No. 10, which landed on October 12, caused serious damage in various places, and it seems that there are still many areas where there is no prospect of recovery. In Nagano, which was severely damaged by the flooding of the Chikuma River, the people of the off-training facility "Nagano BRUSH." Was starting.Naoto Terashima, a snowboarder from Nagano and a separate snowboard nico rider, contacted me to participate in this volunteer and convey the situation and atmosphere of the site.Volunteer activity record by Mr. Terashima who actually participated and experienced the reconstruction work and the reconstruction situation.

The ability to act and unite with people who are connected by the keyword snowboarding

I went to Nagano prefecture, which was hit by a river flood caused by typhoon No. 19, for disaster volunteer activities. This time, I decided to use the snowboard off-training facility "Nagano Blush" in Obuse-cho, in the northern part of Nagano prefecture, as a base for volunteers.Even though the facility itself has been damaged, it seems that it has been working since the day after the typhoon to postpone the restoration and work on the reconstruction of other areas where the damage was greater. So, even now, a week after the typhoon passed, the inside of the facility is almost untouched.

The restoration of Nagano Blush itself is still untouched ...Volunteer activities are carried out with priority given to places with greater damage.

About 10 volunteers gathered at Blush at 19 am on October 8th at the meeting time. Here, Mr. Nobuyuki Takahashi (President and CEO of Gem Co., Ltd., the operator of Nagano Blush), who is in charge of this activity, asked me to tell me the work contents and precautions, and then the activity started in several groups. did.

About 20 volunteers gathered on this day.It is gathered with perfect waterproof and dustproof measures

I headed to a general house a few minutes away from Blush.I helped remove the mud that had accumulated under the floor here. "Isn't it insane to push a unicycle into a stranger's house suddenly, even though it's a volunteer?"I was surprised at the miserable sight in front of me.It was a strange sight that I couldn't believe that people lived until a week ago.The interior of the house was already quiet after the household goods were taken out, but the windows remained broken, the entire room was soiled with mud, and there were some puddles under the floor. At the time of the typhoon, the water of the Chikuma River was flooded to near the ceiling on the first floor. If you look at the mud lines on the wall, you can see how ferocious it was.

The window remains off. Most of the household goods have been carried out, so it gives an impression of being empty.
The floorboards have also peeled off, and a large amount of mud has accumulated under the floor.Today's work is to scrape out this mud

In such a situation, the landlords were scraping the mud under the floor to the outside. We said a few words and immediately started working. However, even if you scoop up the mud with a square scoop, there are too many gravel and stones to scoop up the mud well.In addition to the unfamiliar soil digging work, if you are confused because you do not know how to stand around among strangers, the landlord says, "It is easier to scoop after avoiding gravel with this!" Lend me a mulberry with a smile. In addition, he kindly said, "Where are you from? Thank you so much, don't overdo it." At that time, my shoulders were relaxed.

The landlords will also work together
Work does not go as planned with a large amount of stones and gravel mixed in the mud

As I got used to the work little by little, I was ordered to take a break and took a break.Even during the break, we all got together and talked with a smile. At that time, I learned that even among the 5 or 6 volunteers working at this house, Shiga, Niigata, etc. are all from afar (by the way, I am from Tokyo).

After that, I continued to work (breaks in between) and put out a lot of mud from the inside of the house, the garden, the garage, etc.At first, we didn't speak much, but thanks to the kindness of the landlord, as we got used to it, conversations such as "Which ski resort do you like?" Increased.Since all the members gathered at the call of Nagano Blush, I feel that there was a natural sense of unity in the space that had something in common: I like snowboarding and I like Nagano.

It started raining in the afternoon, so the work for the day was finished a little earlier. When I finished, I felt tired just right. It was completely hard work, but I think that even women can do it because they can work at their own pace and have many breaks.

Various snowboarders are taking action

On this day, the riders who were famous for another unit were also being removed.

"Ryu Hyodo (YONEX), Shinji Tsuruta (NOVEMBER), Shota Sasaki (FANATIC), Ryuta Tanaka (FANATIC), Toshinori Uchida (MOSS), Yoshida" Casshan "Yasutoru (NOVEMBER)"

Finally, a greeting with the landlord. There was almost no change in appearance in the work of the day today, and honestly, I thought that I was too weak to help, but even so, I said "Thank you" and came by itself. I'm glad I did.

<City>

From a long-term perspective, it is important to continue the tier positively with borane.

To be honest, I was wondering what a volunteer amateur like me could do by going to the disaster area alone.Actually, I was wondering if I should turn back several times on my way from Tokyo. But I'm glad I took the plunge.I knew that every time I went there, there were always people asking for help, and I should go to them and do what I could.

What I actually felt after working in the field for a day was that there was still a lot of work to be done.It wasn't a level that would end in a few days or a short span.I think that what is needed to restore this situation is not "something big move" but "small cooperation of each person".It will help to recreate a city by connecting small cooperation. That's why I will continue to make time to volunteer.

And, although it is a little, I would like to continue volunteer activities with a feeling of fun.Even if I volunteer with a nervous feeling, I'm sure it won't continue and I think it won't spread. It may be unscrupulous to say "enjoy", but as mentioned earlier, the local people treat us with a smile, so it is not a bad thing to treat them with a smile, but those who have been affected by the disaster because they treat them with a smile. I think I can snuggle up to.Therefore, I would like those who are going to volunteer from now on to come to the site with a positive feeling.Even if you don't have any tools or skills, you can go with only the minimum equipment.
