[Rider Interview] The Udon Girls are going wild again in the magazine "SNOW ANGEL" released on October 10st. An in-depth interview with the Udon Girls (up to the 31nd generation) from a different angle than in the magazine.
"Udon Musume" is a cute snowboard girl unit that is creating a whirlwind of excitement. With 11 members now, they are painting the slopes with fun colors, and their momentum is accelerating. "What is the appeal of this group that is bringing a breath of fresh air to the snowboarding world?" "What kind of girls are they really?" "What do you have to do to become an Udon Musume?" To answer all of these questions, we bring you an interview that takes a closer look at the girls' true selves!
Q1: First, tell us what an Udon Girl is!
Udon:I think they are the original snowboard idol unit that brought about the era of influencers and ambassadors to the snowboarding world. This year, five third-year members joined, making an unprecedented 3 members in total! They are a snowboarding girl unit! The new members will be revealed for the first time in the October issue of Snow Angel, so be sure to check that out too!
Q2: How did you all become Udon Girls?Sayu:I wanted to somehow get closer to Udon-chan, who I admire and love, haha. I participated in the first NEXT, and through that connection, we have become what we are now!
Akira:I had already had some contact with Udon-san, but at the first NEXT event she asked me to join and I started working as Udon Musume!
Emiemon:This is the "next" ambassador discovery event produced by Udon-chan! I was just enjoying snowboarding at the time and that's when I met the ambassador♪
Chieri:It's only a dream! The strongest event "next" is here.
Mikatannu:I had been watching Udon-chan on Instagram for a long time and wanted to become a snowboarder that other sparkly girls looked up to, when I discovered Udon Musume and participated in an ambassador event called NEXT and became an Udon Musume myself!
Q3: Do you guys as Udon Musume usually skate together or have any interactions?Sayu:Since we all live in different places and have homes in different places, we don't often have a chance to ski together, but that's why it's so much fun to ski together at test rides and events and have girls' nights out!!
Q4: When you all get together, do you cosplay?Udon:Udon loves cosplay (laughs), and I'm often asked, "Do I have to cosplay to be a Udon girl?" But that's not true at all! Honestly, this is because Udon's character is too strong (laughs), but we welcome anyone who loves snowboarding and wants to join us at events and have fun skating! You don't have to take off your clothes at all! (laughs) The current Udon girls are nicely divided into half who want to cosplay, and half who just want to enjoy skating normally, and last season at events the cosplay team and the skating team all coordinated outfits and had fun!
Mikatannu:When we all get together, it makes a big impact, so we want to cosplay or wear matching outfits while snowboarding! That's what we often do! For me, fashion is one of the joys of snowboarding, so I get into it♡ lol I hope that people will see it and think, "That's cute" or "That looks fun," and that it will be an opportunity for them to start snowboarding♫
Chieri:It's fun and awesome to accomplish something together with friends! It's sure to become a memorable story someday in the future. I'm embarrassed and have a lot of feelings about it (lol), but if I have the chance, I'd love to cosplay with you... (lol)
Emiemon: I haven't done much cosplay, but it's fun to wear matching outfits with everyone, it's like an adult festival! I get cold easily, so I don't have enough body heat for sexy cosplay, but I dressed up warm and put dorayaki in my pocket for my third NEXT and cosplayed as Doraemon lol I'm happy that there are people who look at us and say, "You're doing something interesting on the slopes!" and "Your matching outfits are cute!", but more than anything, we're having fun ourselves ♪
Sayupi: When we all cosplay or wear matching clothes, we brainstorm beforehand, saying things like "Isn't this good?" and "Isn't that good?" and we have a lot of fun deciding lol. Apart from Udon Musume, there are more and more girls who cosplay and ski on snowy mountains, and with the addition of new 3rd generation members, the Udon Musume ranks have increased, so I'm thinking that this season it would be great if we could all enjoy cosplay that only Udon Musume can do, or matching outfits, or something original lol.
Q5: Tell us an unexpected side of each member!Udon:
Sayupi → Udon Musume's top influencer! Even when it's hard or difficult during events or activities, Udon always gets energy from seeing her having so much fun skating with the biggest smile on her face! Last year, she came with Udon to Hiroshima and the test rides that Udon had been doing alone until now, and it was really fun every day - thank you, Sukipi! Akira → She's like the general manager of Udon Musume, always supporting and helping Udon when she's not good at organizing things (like former AKB member Takahashi Minami) (lol) Do you get it (lol)? Akira is always nice when she responds quickly when the LINE group is hectic! I think that (lol) Also, she has a great understanding and knowledge of head.sp gear! If there's anything you don't understand, please ask Akira!
Emiemon → You've been the king of results, both before and after you became a head ambassador! You've left results in competitions in various genres, from freestyle to carving, which is really cool! I'm rooting for you this season too! Oh, please teach me carving and freestyle next time!
Chieri → She boasts the most practice among the Udon Girls, and is also very aggressive in the mountains! Last season, she did B1 at Nekoma Big, and seeing Chieri's mountain skiing and Instagram always pushes me to work hard at Udon too! She's usually shy (lol), but once you get her drunk she opens up (lol). Let's all go for drinks again! Tannu → She's like a new star! With this appearance, her Aomori dialect, her dynamite body, and her alcoholism, there's a lot of information about her, but I highly recommend her (lol). I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next! I have high hopes for her!
Sayupi:I'm impressed with the amount of off-season training that Chieri does lol. That's why she's good on the snow too! I really want to emulate her because I don't think there are many girls who can be so strict with themselves and do such an amount of practice!
Akira:I too am always comforted by Tannu's Aomori dialect lol. Out of all the 3rd generation members, Tannu might be the one with the most unexpected side or gap lol.
Sayu:I also love the contrast that doesn't come across on Mikatannu's Instagram lol Speaking of contrasts, Udon-chan is a gravure idol who seems like she has absolutely no interest in snowboarding, but when she snowboards she's so good at it, it's such a huge contrast lol I really fell in love with her lol
Udon:Recently in the snowboarding world, many idols have been born and it's been called the Warring States period of snowboarding idols lol Udon needs to practice properly too. Sayupi and Chieri always work hard on their off-season training in the heat, I really respect them! Udon will also get serious from tomorrow!
Mika Tannu:I admire the first-year students, including Udon-chan, not only for their skating skills, but also for their mindset and ability to spread the word, and I respect them as a goal I want to surpass someday, and the two second-year students who are my classmates, just practice so much!! To put it mildly, these two are snowboarding nuts lol (that's a compliment) and they're both heavy drinkers, aren't they? The third-year students also had shining personalities, so I'm looking forward to seeing them all work together in the future!!!
Chieri:
Udon-chan → She's stylish, cute, and has a great figure. She's also good at snowboarding, jibs, jumps, and all-around gliding, so I admire her. Sayupi-chan → She always has a beautiful face and a big smile, and enjoys every moment to the fullest. But she does her job well! Is she like Anmika in the snowboarding industry?! Akira-chan → Despite her cute appearance, she's reliable, smart, and dependable. She has a lively image?! (laughs) Akira-chan is also stylish. She's a serious snowboarder! Waraemiemon → She has a wonderful aura that makes her friends with anyone, and is a person who can give you peace and security. Her communication skills are "great"! She's stylish and cool when snowboarding! I'm so jealous. Tannu-chan → She has a beautiful image with her beautiful face and glamorous body, but her character and the way she talks are super cute, and she's a soothing type with a huge gap.
3rd Generation Members → I saw their Instagram and thought they were all amazing at snowboarding and other aspects. All the Udon Girls are so reliable, so I wanted to rely on them and let them spoil me (laughs). I'm an Udon Girl who is comforted by the Udon Girls.
Udon:Snowboarding's Anmika www explosion
Sayupi:Anmika is a hit, isn't she? I think Emiemon is one of the people who has brought a new wind to Udon Musume, showing off the strong image of head, which is jibs and parks, with her freestyle tricks! Now that Emiemon has been accepted into the freestyle trick category, it makes me feel like I have to work hard at freestyle tricks too! Also, Emiemon is amazing, or rather, the contrast, the part on her Instagram where she goes from bodybuilding to competing in a competition is so amazing, I've watched that video many times lol
Udon:That's right! They said they wanted to change the image of HEAD, so they asked the second generation of students to be the ambassadors for Gra-Trick! I think Emiemon is the first female Gra-Tricker to be an ambassador for HEAD! So I was really happy when they chose her! And not only Gra-Trick, but last season she also competed in carving competitions and made good results, so I feel like she's a promising young talent who is bringing a new wind to the Udon Musume riding style!
Emiemon:
Udon-chan → First, the life-sized poster? That was impressive! I wondered if an idol was here at an event in the snowy mountains, but I was surprised to see her in a jib! Contrary to her gentle appearance, she has more passion and love for Head and Udon Musume than anyone else, and I think everyone, including me, wanted to follow her because she's Udon-chan! Sayupi-chan → Udon Musume's mood maker Sayupi-san! She carries a smartphone stand and a selfie stick, and is a friend to women who take photos at the right angle! Her Instagram Live after the event is also the best! Akira-san → Akira-san has a cool style for jibs and kickers! She's one of the kind first-generation members who spoke to me when I was nervous for the first time during last year's Snow Angel shoot! She's also very knowledgeable about gear, and Akira-san's smile charms the fans during events! She's the unsung hero! Chieri-san → A resident of Kicker lol This person now lives in an off-leash facility lol She's a kicker-taker even on snowy mountains, soaring through the air! And, in fact, she's also pretty crazy when driving long distances in a car! Sumikatannu, a fellow second-generation member → She's half Japanese and half Aomori lol She's super friendly and loves cute things! Mikatannu has a summery image, but she also has the coolness of Mikannu in winter! All three second-generation members love alcohol.
Q: Udon Musume seems to be having a great time! How do you spend your time off?Udon:Every summer, I just did off-season snowboarding training, but this year I bought a SUP and started a new summer hobby! SUPing and eating camp food is the best!
Sayu:Looking back at my summer photos, I was mostly doing off-season training lol. Other than that, I started a lot of new things this year, like mountain climbing, golf (still practicing), wake surfing, rafting, and watching motor sports! I went to a live performance of my favorite artist, went snorkeling, planted rice at Naeba where I work as a slope influencer, helped out at Fuji Rock, and was very active this summer lol.
Akira:I got a mirrorless camera, so I went to the river to take pictures and take pictures of my cat. I also went to places that I can't go to during the season, like Disney, and had fun.
Emiemon:During the off-season, I enjoyed going to Disney, the beach, and having BBQs. The mountains in summer are nice, but I miss the snowy mountains too.
Chieri: YesI’m always doing off-season training (laughs). In fact, this summer I even tried SUP for the first time.
Mikatannu:I went on a trip! Bali, Aomori, Kansai, and more! I went to the pool, festivals, and the beach a lot ♡ And speaking of summer, I went to watch the baseball games at Koshien!! Congratulations to my alma mater for making it to the top four!
Q: It's getting cooler and the season is fast approaching! Last year,"JILL LYT BOA"I've been using Udon Musume to design the characters, but let me know if there's anything else you'd like to try with Udon Musume!Udon:I want to take a cool video of everyone skiing hard! And I want all 11 of us to look great in matching outfits on the snowy mountain!
Sayu:I want to try skating in matching outfits! Also, it's not a challenge, but I want to have a girls' get-together with all the Udon Girls lol I want to have fun talking about things that only Udon Girls can talk about lol
Akira:Although we've had the opportunity to take photos together, we've never had the chance to take a video, so I want to make a video of everyone!
Emiemon:I'd love to have a sports day with everyone on a snowy mountain! Who can make the best snowman? Or who can run the fastest in boots?
Chieri:It may not really be a "challenge", but Udon Musume's "YouTube"!
Mikatannu:I'd like to try designing boots like the first generation members did! I'd be happy to create Udon Musume models in various things, not just boots♡
