[Rider Interview] Ikuyo Yoshida talks about the splitboard-compatible binding "SPLIT"

For riders who enjoy splitboarding in backcountry areas, reliable and easy-to-use bindings are essential. The "SP Bindings MULTIENTRY SPLIT" bindings we are introducing today are an excellent item that combines both! We interviewed Ikuyo Yoshida, who uses the SP Bindings "MULTIENTRY SPLIT" to make her backcountry adventures even more comfortable and safe, about the reasons why she uses them.

Q1: You use SP SPLIT bindings for your splitboard. What are your criteria for choosing them? 194:Splitboard bindings can be used with dedicated bindings, or you can use the bindings you use with solid boards. Splitboards have a connection part called an "interface", and the splitboard I use, Head Snowboards,VOY SPLITBOARD SET (INCL. SKINS)recommends the Volley system, which allows you to attach a 4x4 binding to the plate that comes with the Volley system. The SP Bindings "MULTIENTRY SPLIT" binding has the Volley system plate located on the back of the base of the binding itself, so it can be attached directly. This convenience makes splitboard riding even more comfortable. Q2 : I see! There are many different types of splitboards and bindings for splits. Can SP's SPLIT bindings be used on any board? Of course, they can't be attached to a normal board, right? 194:Yes, you can't use SP's SPLIT bindings on a single board, i.e. a solid board. It is a binding made specifically for splitboards. The installation method is different from that of regular bindings. Q3: 194, what do you like about the SP SPLIT bindings and why do you use them? 194: SP's SPLIT bindings have a flat sole, are thin and light, so they are extremely easy to use! I really like the good response and the feeling of being able to step firmly on them because they are flat. And the rear entry system is also attractive. When walking on a splitboard, you attach the bindings facing forward, and you can put them on smoothly like putting on slippers, so this is the secret to being able to move quickly. It's very easy. In backcountry areas, it is very important to be able to respond quickly in an emergency. Q4: There are some with flat soles and some without. Does that have to do with the fact that SP's SPLIT bindings have an integrated sole plate? 194: Yes! That's why it's flat and thin. With other bindings, when you put a plate on it, the sole becomes thicker and heavier. Some other bindings have holes in the sole to make them lighter, but I really like the flat sole. Q5: And yet it's light, thin and easy to handle, which is appealing! I guess it has to do with the thinness of the sole. Thinness is good, but how durable is it? 194:It's made of aluminum, so it's very durable! Even if you climb a lot in the backcountry throughout the season, it won't break or wear out. What's more, it comes with optional crampons, and the revolutionary combination of being able to put them on while still wearing them is the best. You can attack icy surfaces and steep slopes with confidence, so it's truly invincible (lol). I may be exaggerating a bit, but I'm really grateful that I can put them on and take them off smoothly even in the extreme cold of a snowy mountain. Q6: That was very helpful! Finally, please give us some advice for those who are about to start splitting in the backcountry. 194:Splitboarding may be a little difficult at first, but once you get used to it, you will definitely be fascinated by its fun and freedom. Be sure to get the right equipment and enjoy the beautiful nature of the backcountry. And, be sure to have fun with your friends, safety first!
