Q23: What kind of season was the 24-XNUMX season for you, Mr. Usui?
Usui:In a word, it was a season of "returning to the roots." Speaking of technology, we looked back on the various challenges we have taken on over the past 15 years.
Q2: What was the most impressive thing?
Usui: It was the first time in 25 years that I snowboarded with the person who first got me interested in snowboarding. It made me realize that I still have a long way to go.
Q3: What did you notice?
Usui: "Surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding", only snowboarding has bindings to secure your feet. This is the point. That is, "There are many movements that are only allowed on snowboards". Without realizing it, I was relying too much on the equipment. The important thing is to "eliminate the movements that are only allowed on snowboards". In other words, it is better to get inspiration from surfing and skateboarding. Do free riding before carving. I had completely forgotten these. I was too obsessed with trivial techniques. The point is to "use twists effectively". Please dig deeper if you like. It was truly a "return to the basics".
Q4: That's deep! I've done a bit of surfing and skateboarding, so it gave me goosebumps! It must be so much fun to be able to enjoy it while thinking so much! Do you like thinking when you skate?
Usui: I believe there are "reason why things can be done and why they can't be done." It is our job as instructors to uncover and explain these. I have always loved thinking while skating, but it's a different story if I only affirm myself. If I only do that, I won't be able to "communicate in a clear and gentle way." The most important thing is that the experience I have from giving lessons to various customers every day is my greatest treasure. That is why I consider the field to be my top priority. So I tell myself that "forcing my own theories on people is second rate." I would like to continue teaching "technique theories for people."
Q5: What do you do during the off-season?
Usui:I mainly work in forestry. About twice a month, I also hold events (lessons) for skateboarding and indoor skiing.
Q6: Where do you take skateboarding or snowboarding lessons?
Usui: The skating event is held in Minamiaizu, Fukushima. The theme is "New Body Movements". It is positioned as off-season training to help you discover a new you by changing your skating settings. Off-season training for snowboarding is held at Snowva Shin-Yokohama in Yokohama. This is where I used to work, and it is no exaggeration to say that I was able to become a demonstrator thanks to this facility. We introduce various variations of low-speed control training, which is important for snowboarding. "Low-speed control and balance that doesn't rely on speed" will make the axis of your skating thicker.
Q7: Where can I get information about events and lessons?
Usui: I mostly announce it in my own salon or in my LINE group. Since I work with a small number of people, I don't often advertise to the public.InstagramWe also have a Facebook page, so feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Q: What is your vision for next season?
Usui: It's about "removing that sense of discomfort." Currently, the world deals with a wide variety of information (technical theories). However, it seems that shallow information is also increasing at the same time. This allows information to be summarized well in a short amount of time, which is understandable, but the discomfort remains. For me, the pursuit of "reality" is what interests me the most, and it's the main reason why I continue snowboarding. I will continue to deliver that to my customers. I plan to use this experience to go even deeper into the field of education. I hope to connect with the future of children. It's an abstract comment, but I hope you can read it with depth of image.
