"PEAK" is a new model from SP Bindings. SP, which has attracted many fans so far, is taking a new step with the release of the "PEAK", a high-performance binding that combines stability and operability. It is a true "reliable partner" that fits both hard-hitting riders and freestylers who value delicate control.
This time, we interviewed professional snowboarder Kenji Fujimoto, who was one of the first to use PEAK, about its feel and appeal.
Q1: What was your first impression when you used "PEAK" for the first time?
Fujimoto: After putting them on and taking a one-footed stance, I felt the stability provided by the thickness of the ankle strap. When I actually started skating, I felt a sense of security, as if I was wrapped in the high back and ankle strap, and I felt like I could attack even though I have weak ankles. Even though they were thick, they were quite flexible, and it was nice to be able to move my feet naturally.Q2: What position do you think PEAK holds among the SP Bindings models?
Fujimoto: I think this is the "top model" of the SP range, but that doesn't mean it's "only for advanced riders." It's a binding that fits anyone looking for performance. In fact, it's so well-made that it works well with any boots or settings, so I recommend it to anyone trying out the SP for the first time.Q3: When using it on the slopes and in the park, in what situations did you feel PEAK's true value?
Fujimoto: I mainly do carving and terrain play, but the stability and sense of security when I went fast was really good. Even when I went faster than usual, it was easy to control the edges. In addition, the ankle strap has a strong and soft hold, so it's easy to make small movements even at low speeds, and it really feels like it's "moving just the way I want it to."Q4: How did the PEAK fit your riding style?
Please tell us about its compatibility with carving, jibs, jumps, and freestyle tricks. Fujimoto: It was especially great for carving. It holds your ankles firmly, so the reaction when you step on it is very direct, and you can ride the edge with confidence. What's more, I think that this feeling of holding is due to the SP's unique mechanism, but it's a feeling that you can't get with other brands. The wide range of movement of the feet makes it easy to do terrain and freestyle tricks, so it's really perfect for people who want to show off their style from free runs to jibs.Q5: What differences and improvements do you notice in PEAK compared to existing SP Bindings (sLAB ONE, PURE, etc.)?
Fujimoto: I like sLAB ONE and PURE, but PEAK has a clearly wider range of controllable by foot sensation. It holds firmly, but also has soft and flexible parts, so it has both stability when going fast and freedom of fine movement. It gives the impression of having the same holding sensation as SP, but with added delicacy and responsiveness.Q6: Has your riding changed since you started using this PEAK?
Fujimoto: There were a lot of them. I was not good at toe side carving, but after I switched to PEAK, I was able to push harder and my skating changed. For someone like me who has weak ankles, PEAK is the "gear that gives me the courage to attack." I never thought that one piece of equipment would open up the world of skating to this extent.Q7: What kind of riders is PEAK recommended for?
Fujimoto: I especially recommend it to people who want to show style in their riding and who want to value the feeling of their feet. It's also perfect for people who want to step up a level a little, or for intermediate to advanced riders who want to try more. Although it's an advanced model, it's highly maneuverable and has no quirks, so I think it will appeal to a wide range of people.Q8: Do you have any advice regarding settings or matching boots?
Fujimoto: To be honest, I think it goes well with any boots, and you can get used to it right away without any special settings. That means it's highly complete, right? From the first time I rode it, I thought, "Oh, this is good."Q9: What did you think about the design and looks?
Fujimoto: I really like how it looks simple and has no unnecessary elements, but also has a high-end feel to it. The appearance of gear also affects how you feel, so it's important that it looks cool.Q10: Finally, please give a message to riders who are considering using PEAK.
Fujimoto: If you're still unsure, I'd like you to try it once. I think it will definitely broaden the scope of your snowboarding. "Things that you were too scared to try before will now make you think, 'Oh, maybe I can do it.'" I hope you'll experience that kind of change. With PEAK, you can go one step further than usual.
